Green Light for Shenton Plan

Primewest-Iris Residential's $140 million plan for 150 apartments and 14 specialty tenancies at the gateway to LandCorp's Montario Quarter in Shenton Park has been approved.

The Cameron Chisholm Nicol designed project, aiming for a four-star Green Star rating, will be the first significant apartment built in Shenton Park for decades.

Iris Residential chief operating officer Tanya Trevisan said the residential component included a mix of options and intergeneratinal design to appeal to young professionals, families with children at Shenton College and downsizers.

"More than 85 per cent of apartments will have access to mid-winter sun and enjoy cross ventilation," Ms Trevisan said, adding the complex would have electric vehicle charging stations, a workshop and secure storage for bikes, and was to have "an extensive 85kW rooftop solar array", benefiting residents by reducing strata levies.

Primewest director John Bond said the group had secured pre-commitments for a supermarket, retail and food operators and highly sought-after commercial tenancies.

"The blend of quality residential and retail components will make it one of very few true mixed-use building in Perth, outside Claremont Quarter, to be located as part of a transit-oriented development," Mr Bond said.

The apartments are to be within two separate four-storey boomerang low-rise buildings, above a three to four-storey landscaped podium with views to the west, city skyline and Kings Park.

WA landscape architects Propagule have designed an elevated landscaped podium deck for a community herb and vegetable garden, children's playgrund, an excercise area, extensive planting and a 20m swimming pool and barbecue terrace.
